If your website is more than two years old, you might want to consider updating it. This blog talks about the top three reasons why you need a new website for your business!
How long has it been since you’ve last updated your website design? More than 2 years? Websites, like anything else in this world, need to be updated with a new look and feel so you stay up to date with society and the trends. Just like cars after a couple years and thousands and thousands of miles later the car can start to become less unreliable and give you problems, well websites are no different. Ever been searching the web for something you need and stumble across a website that looks something like this?
Yikes... That’s old! Most of these websites are made solely using html and other basic coding, and although that’s fine because html is still used today for website structure, there are other aspects like CSS and JavaScript and other coding languages that can be incorporated. Now just because your website doesn’t look like this doesn’t mean it’s not due for an update and here is why...
Old websites tend to be slow and responsive – meaning they don’t automatically adjust to various screen sizes (desktop, tablet, mobile). Old websites tend to use old picture formats like huge jpg files instead of newer .svg and jpg2000 formats which compress image sizes drastically helping your website load faster and enhance your visitor’s experience. When someone visits your website they are expecting responsiveness and fast load times and when this need is not satisfied they are just going to exit out of there for increasing your bounce rate and potentially losing a client.
Most of the time, websites are built using pre-made templates, and while this is a great way to get your website up and running in a timely manner it’s not a great long-term strategy. These premade themes are not built around your business! They are built to satisfy the needs of hundreds of different businesses owners looking for a quick way to put a website together. With a template website, you are stuck with only being able to change a couple colors, pictures, content, and most times it doesn’t even look how you want it to look. Your website should be designed and built around your business and match your brand.
Coming back to the website example mentioned at the beginning of the blog, although you look at that now and say, “Wow that’s old!” 15 years ago that was the latest innovation in website design and development but now it is far outdated. Things change over time and change quickly. Just look at Facebook and how quickly they changed their UI over the years to enhance the overall user experience. This highlights the importance of keeping an eye on your website data to see where your website can be improved and constantly making changes so you stay up to date!

It is safe to say if your website has not been updated in the past few years... it is time for an update.
Remember, if your website is slow, determine where it’s lacking and improve the performance!
